August Thunderstorms in the high desert can be extraordinary. I had been wanting to try some lightening shots, but from a safe distance. So I checked the weather and determined the afternoon storms that day would be mostly south of the Great Salt Lake. We jumped in the truck and drove to the north shore with the idea of shooting across the lake while keeping a safe distance from the energy nature was going to unleash. Imagine our surprise when an unanticipated storm rolled in right on top of us. Here we were in the middle of nowhere with a truck as our only protection. This was a fierce storm that buffeted and shook the truck as if it were nothing but a rag in the teeth of a raging dog. We hunkered down inside with lightening striking all around us and the sky turning from bright blue to deep orange and dark purple. It was a thrilling experience, and I did manage to get some amazing shots,  but I am not sure it is an experience I want to repeat.
